Scientific name-
Although we know Star tortoises as 'Star Tortoise' they are also known as Geochelone elegans. This is their scientific name.
Body Covering -
This tortoises has a shell covering the top of a turtle's body which is called carapace which is made by a hard substance called scutes. This shell is high and is a dome shape because they need to camflage in the grass and bush due to spending time on land.
Relative size and weight-
A beautiful medium-sized tortoise are 38 cm tall 7 kg in weight. Females grow larger than males, females grow up to 35 cm whereas males grow up to 30 cm
Behaviour-
Some star tortoises are shy, they will withdraw their head and limbs, but they will generally learn to recognize their keeper and will come for food. As they grow older they become more use to the habitat and people around their encloser. They love being around family or relatives
Diet-
Star Tortoises eat grss,leaves, weeds, salad hay, flowers and many other plants as well as they cannot have to much fruit. Small insects are eaten in only hot days and around dry ground.
